ARM is developing a GPU to rival NVIDIA and AMD!

Ana sayfa / News

ARM may be preparing to rival AMD and NVIDIA in the graphics card market. Recent rumors suggest that the chip giant is developing a discrete GPU unit. This shows that it wants to adapt to this market after Intel.

ARM has tasked chip and software engineers in its Israeli office with developing the new GPU. In this context, it allocated it to the company’s global graphics processing group. Although it is expected to be primarily game-oriented, it can also be applied to artificial intelligence operations depending on the research results.

ARM is actually no stranger to producing GPUs. The company produces Immortalis and Mali GPUs integrated on many chips using the ARM architecture. But a new project shows that the company wants to produce a discrete graphics card like NVIDIA or Intel. This could enable it to enter the PC market.

Ubisoft Laid Off 45 Employees! But They Made a Promise

Ubisoft made an interesting decision regarding layoffs. Company laid off 45 employees but promised to pay severance and help find new jobs.

Immortalis and Mali GPUs were designed for mobile devices with features like ray-tracing and ARM ASR. However, earlier tests showed that they have the capabilities to compete with desktop graphics cards. The new GPU can also work with both x86 and ARM-based PCs and laptops.

Qualcomm is currently developing ARM-based Snapdragon X processors for the PC market. This means that there could be demand for a specialized GPU for the ARM architecture. Discrete graphics cards currently support x86/x86-64 chips.

ARM has not yet confirmed that it is working on this project. But it makes sense that the company would want to expand beyond the mobile world to the PC market.
